Aminata Dite Amissa's story

Aminata is a 56-year old handicapped woman who runs a 12-person household. She lives alone with her family in a situation of extreme poverty. However, she refuses to beg and she struggles for the well-being of her family. Aminata relies solely on her own efforts to feed her family. She is very vulnerable and receives no social assistance.
Nevertheless, Aminata believes in her star and is developing a business. She sells food products and various other items (lemon juice, palm oil, charcoal, sheets, and dresses). Due to her handicap she has had a great deal of difficulty getting access to any financing for her business. This situation does not lend itself to operating a profitable business. Through the Entrepreneurs of the World program in Senegal (FANSOTO), Aminata finally has some hope of obtaining a loan to develop her business, thanks to KIVA.
This loan will allow her to buy a sufficient quantity of lemon juice, palm oil, charcoal, sheets, and dresses. Since she depends solely on her business, Aminata plans to invest in it further, because it is through diversification of her income-generating activities that she will be able to increase her sales volume and profits as well as set aside more money to support herself and her family.
