A loan helped to buy more bags of maize and rice.

Lizzie's story

Lizzie is a 21-year-old entrepreneur who lives with her grandfather in the Phalombe district in Malawi. She sells maize (corn) and rice at a market near her home.

She is requesting a second Kiva loan in order to buy more bags of maize and rice. She plans to use the profit she earns to help vulnerable children purchase school supplies and to support her elderly grandfather’s basic needs.

Lizzie will repay the ‘social interest’ on her second loan by volunteering three hours per week as a CAMFED Learner Guide, following up on students who are at risk of dropping out of school, finding out why they are missing school and linking them with the help they need to stay in school.

This loan is special because:

It helps borrowers withstand negative economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
