A loan of $450 helped purchase of precious stones. Repairs to home.

Maria Vicenta's story

María U. is a member of the “Mujeres Floreciendo” (“Blooming Women”) communal bank and lives in Paccha. Paccha is an area known for agriculture, as this has traditionally been the primary occupation of its inhabitants. Most of their crops are used in their community, with only a small amount being sold in the markets of Cuenca.

María is 36 years old, lives in a civil union, and has 4 children, ages 15, 12, 9 and 7. Her two oldest children are in high school and her two younger are in elementary school. Her husband makes handicrafts and all kinds of jewelry. Working together, they have been to build their own home where their family lives very happily.

She has worked with her husband since she got married. She works from 8:00am to 11:00am and then works in the café at the local high school in the afternoon. This is her first loan and she is very hopeful that with it she will be able to continue developing her handicrafts business. She will invest the loan in the purchase of supplies, such as gold-plated stones. She will also use the loan to make repairs to her home that are as yet unfinished.
