Melvia Maria's story

Melvia Maria is a 33-year-old entrepreneur who lives with her husband and two children in the city of Cartagena.

This micro-entrepreneur started her beauty salon business to generate income for her household economy.

She has overcome many adversities. Due to the crisis in neighbouring Venezuela, she had to immigrate to the city of Cartagena. With the help of her spouse she has been able to get ahead. After settling in, she became pregnant and in this situation she decided to carry out this business and established her beauty salon in the living room of the house to take care of her daughter. She has gradually gained recognition in the sector and has a fixed clientele.

Her portfolio of services is highly diversified. She offers cutting services for ladies and gentlemen, dyes, keratin, beauty procedures, hair tints, etc. Melvia is synonymous of strength, work and sacrifice.

Due to the pandemic, her income was affected. She needs to strengthen her business plan with the economic reactivation. That is why she is currently requesting a Kiva loan, the first loan she makes to the Fundación Santo Domingo, to invest in the purchase of keratin, hair powders, shampoo, rinses, gel, dyes, machines, scissors, etc.

Melvia thinks that her effort, sacrifice and drive have benefited her family since they generate the necessary income to have a better quality of life. Support her on her loan, it will be a success.
