A loan helped a member to buy boxes of chicken cuts, sausages and a freezer.

Lindas Estrellas Group's story

It is tremendously empowering for women like 21-year-old Blanca to manage their own businesses. She is married with a 3-year-old son. Blanca sells sausages and chicken by the pound. Her husband helps her with accounting and customer service. Her business is growing and is open on a daily basis. She is requesting her first KIVA loan to buy boxes of chicken cuts, sausages and a freezer.

Blanca joins eight other ladies who live in a rural area in the department/state of Suchitepequez in their Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Lindas Estrellas” or “Pretty Stars”. There is a large market where they live that enables them to sell fruit, chicken cuts, sausages and live animals. They look forward to their monthly meetings when they offer each other support, make loan payments and participate in educational training sessions, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services. Topics are relevant to their lives and drawn from four areas: business, health, family, women. They also learn about using social media like Facebook and Whatsapp to advertise their products. On a bi-monthly basis, a visiting nurse comes to them and offers basic health exams like blood pressure checks, family planning options and PAP smears.

The partnership of KIVA and Friendship Bridge is very beneficial to Blanca and her friends. Thank you, KIVA investors, for your kindness in funding these much appreciated loans!
