God Help Group's story

Pictured here are members of the “God Help” group. They are small-scale businesspeople based in Makeni, a city in northern Sierra Leone. They are seeking a loan of SLL 1,200,000 for each to enable them to further expand their businesses. Consequently, they will make more profit and improve their standard of living.

The leader of this group is Kadiatu K., pictured on the left. Kadiatu is age 45 and was born in Binkolo village about seven miles away from Makeni. She is married with six children. Her husband is a businessman and one of her children is attending secondary school, three are in primary school and two are already grown-ups and living on their own. For more than ten years now, Kadiatu has been selling palm oil (the country’s most popular cooking oil), beans, salt, firewood, etc. With her share of this loan, she will expand her business by buying the above-mentioned goods in large quantity to add to her current ones.

(Attached to this photo is a snapshot of a borrower who was not able to be present for the group photo.)
