A loan helped to purchase a professional oven and other cooking equipment.

Ikhlas's story

Ikhlas, 47, is married with seven school-aged children. She lives in Shuafat, in north Jerusalem, and has worked as a chef for the last three years in a hotel. Ikhlas studied business management and bookkeeping. She also received business training from MATI, the training partner of the Jerusalem Interest-free Microfinance Fund, JIMF.

Ikhlas now wishes to start a home-based cooking business, from which she will meet orders for traditional Arab cooking. She plans to cater to private parties and celebrations, and also provide meals for schools and nurseries. Although there are fast food outlets in Shuafat, no one else is offering to supply traditional Arab cooking to order.

Ikhlas seeks to borrow 18,000 ILS towards the purchase of a large capacity professional oven and other equipment. (She will contribute 9,000 ILS from her own savings.) With this investment, she aims to fulfill her potential and to enhance her family’s income.
