Esther's story

Wonderful Kiva Community, meet Esther, a 39-year-old mom. She is a humble mother whose main dream is to improve the conditions of her home. She has a lovely family that she really adores. She will do anything good to prevent them from ever having to go to bed on empty stomachs.

Esther comes from the Nyamira area of Kenya. She never got the opportunity to advance her education beyond primary school to get a white-collar job, but that reality did not stop her dream of wanting to succeed in life.

Esther has been farming for the last few years. During this time, she has gathered much experience and all the farming techniques are at her fingertips. Since the Nyamira area is a favorable one for farming, she is seeking a loan through Kiva's field partner Juhudi Kilimo to buy farm inputs such as fertilizers and seeds. This will enable her to grow more crops, reap maximum profits, and improve her business.

Being a woman and accessing funds in Kenya, especially around her area, is very challenging, but Esther feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like her. Esther is always working to improve her family’s living conditions, but her biggest dreams are to become independent and support her family. She is so thankful because of the trust and support from this Kiva platform.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
