A loan helped to buy charcoal to sell.

Hawa's story

Hawa is 49 years old, a widow and has three children, all of whom are in school and live at home.

Hawa sells charcoal and has been managing her business for the past 15 years. She learned how to sell from her parents and has a lot of customers who patronize her business. She sells Monday through Saturday and uses a car to transport supplies at her business site. She likes her business because it helps to support her family, and she is proud of her business because it enables her to send her children to school.

Hawa had asked for a loan through BRAC Liberia, Kiva Field Partner, to buy more charcoal to sell to her good clients.

Hawa's hopes and dreams for the future are to buy land and build houses for her children. She wishes to say thanks!

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
