Sopey Dabakh Group's story

The SOPEY DABAKH solidarity group consists of seven women 30 years old on average, all married excepting the group’s president Fatou Ndao SALL, and all from the same “Banc Villageois” loan group carrying the same name as the DIAMAGUENE borough.

They came together through personal affinity and the desire to help each other manage their business activities, mainly concerned with various seafood products such as dried or smoked fish, dried oysters and shrimp, or the sale of clothing fabric and beauty products.

The group is one of eight that constitute the “Banc Villageois” loan group, rooted in the centre of the borough and numbering 90 members, all women. The group was created at the same time as the Banc Villageois, 2 ½ years ago. Mrs Aston GUEYE is not in the picture, as she had to take her ailing mother to the hospital for medical treatments.

The president Fatou Ndao SALL (23 years old) is in the middle of the picture wearing a wide smile and a white “boubou” strewn with blue flowers and a blue pagne. She is unmarried without children. She was elected group responsible due to her assiduity and dynamism.

She retails mainly clothing fabrics and beauty products. The purpose of her loan is to strengthen her working capital and her objective is to bolster her savings and take charge of her personal needs.

In addition to reimbursing the group loan, the women contribute in general to the improvement of their respective families’ living conditions.
