Bimuborak's story

Bimuborak B. has been engaged in business for over 5 years. Her business is to sew national Tadjik mattresses. Her business is located in the service center Navruz. Bimuborak with her two business partners rented one room for their activity 5 years ago.

The process of making mattresses includes four steps: sewing fabric into a long sack, spreading it out on the preparing cotton, putting cotton in the long sack and sewing it with stitch (2 cm) by hand. On one mattress they do 6 or 8 lines of stitches. Making one mattress requires one day. All of them make their mattress separately of each other. Then they give their products to the market for sale. Since ancient times this kind of business is in high demand because it is tradition to give your daughter several (10-12) mattresses with pillows when she is going to get married.

Presently their workshop is one of the known workshops in Khujand and today they sew mattresses according to orders of clients. They have a great number of orders in the wedding period (June-November). To purchase several kinds of fabric for her mattresses she is requesting $1200 for 14 months.
