A loan helped to buy more sugar, candy, milk, salt, onions, dry pepper, bitter balls, okra, vegetable oil, red oil and other items to sell.

Fatu's story

Greetings from Liberia! This is 37-year-old Fatu who lives with her partner along with six children. Five of her children are currently in school, and all live at home.

Fatu is a strong businesswoman who sells sugar, candy, milk, salt, onions, dry pepper, bitter balls, okra, vegetable oil, red oil and other items. She has been operating her sales for 18 years. Her mother taught her how to sell. She has no problems with her business and uses a car to transport supplies to her business site.

To continue her sales, she applied for a loan through BRAC Liberia, a Kiva Field Partner, to buy more sugar, candy, milk, salt, onions, dry pepper, bitter balls, okra, vegetable oil, red oil and other items to sell in order to further build her business. She likes her business because sales are fast. In the future, she wants to become a successful businesswoman. Fatu wishes to say thanks.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
