A loan of $4,675 helped a member to buy grocery items and a freezer for her business.

Creativas 1,2,3,4 Group's story

Maritza is the coordinator of her group Las creativas (The Creative Ones), and her story is representative of her group and of Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican (many of whom recently emigrated to the DR from Haiti) clients generally. Her group is located in the the slums north of Santo Domingo, an area where crime is rampant and where running water (none of which is potable) and electricity are unreliable. She makes her home here in a simple structure with her husband and four children.

Maritza is excited to be taking her fifth loan with Esperanza after having successfully repaid her previous loan and expanded her business. She plans to use this loan to invest in her small grocery store business by purchasing rice, beans, cooking oil, sugar, flour, soups, spices, vegetables and a freezer. She will use the profits to save money for completing renovations to her home and to eventually buy a car to move her goods around more easily. She thanks you all for your support.

In this group: Maritza, Yudelka, Paula, Dominga, Maira, Petronilla, Juana, Maritza, Virginia, Minerva, Diana, Francisca, Teresa, Ricarda, Cristina, Marleyda, Alexandra, Rafaela, Bernarda, Altagracia
