A loan helped a member to buy sheep to fatten.

01_Thiare Dendel Group's story

This group was created in February 2000. It is made up of women who are from the same area and who share good neighborly and social ties. The women do different types of work. They have reimbursed several loans without difficulty.

Fatou is a 62-year-old widow and a mother of five children, including three sons. All of the children are adults.

Fatou is the leader [of the group] and is the one standing on the far left in the photo, wearing red and white clothing. She works raising livestock, which she buys in her area from farmers and then fattens at her home. She has several years' experience doing this type of work.

[With her loan] Fatou is going to buy seven sheep and feed and pay for vaccines. She does well, because her children help her sell her animals.

Profits allow her to save and to help with the family expenses.

In this group: Fatou, Diogoye, Binta Dagga, Ami, Maguette
