Carlos Jose's story

Carlos Jose is a 34 year-old micro-entrepreneur who lives in the city of Cartagena with his wife. Carlos has 15 years of experience in the construction sector, and after noticing the growth and development of the residential zone where he lives, he started a business as a building contractor. With this business, he offers his clients a wide range of services, such as plastering, plating, blemishing, painting and general finishes. This allows him to obtain a good income and improve the quality of life for his family.

Carlos specializes in many areas of construction, particularly in the finishing touches of walls, kitchens and tiles. Thanks to his excellent work, he has earned recognition in the construction sector and has completed several contracts with engineers and construction officials.

Before the pandemic, this business was quite profitable for Carlos. However, due to the current situation his income has been affected, and he needs to strengthen his business plan with economic reactivation. For this reason, he is applying for his first loan with Kiva, with the support from Fundación Santo Domingo. He will use this loan to purchase tiles, plates, stucco (plastering), wall adhesive, paint, etc.

Carlos thinks that the key to his business is in crafting strategies so his clients can access his services, which will in turn increase his productivity and help him obtain a higher profit margin.
