A loan of $1,200 helped purchase merchandise for her store & ingredients for making pupusas.

María Magdalena's story

María Magdalena C. Z. is 35 years old and has three children (ages 17, 14, and 11) who attend school. She currently lives with her brother-in-law, who works as a tailor, since her husband is in the United States for work and sends home monthly remittances. María is an enterprising woman who does not like being idle. She works very hard to have a better life and build up savings for when her husband returns.

Maria manages a store where she sells bread, beverages, hair gels, and toothpaste. Her business is small, but she has every intention to make it grow. In the evenings, she prepares “pupusas” which are traditional in Salvadoran cuisine and made of corn, beans, and cheese, though they can be served with other ingredients. Maria operates both businesses from her home in the Department of San Miguel.

She is requesting a loan in order to buy food products such as eggs, bread, instant soups, and other items. Maria will also acquire ingredients in bulk for making pupusas, since they are in great demand because they taste good. She is determined to provide her three children with a better life and give them everything they need. They are the main reason why she continues to work and invest great effort every day.
