A loan helped to pay for digging a well.

Sokkhy's story

Sokkhy is 30 years old, married with two children and lives in the Bakan district of Pursat province, Cambodia. Being a responsible mother, she works hard every day to generate income so that she can cover her daily costs and send her children to school. She works as a mobile construction worker with her husband and travels around the country as a team, providing this service. She can earn approximately only USD 7 per day which has to cover expenses of food, medicine, clothes and especially her children's school allowance.

Due to the shortage of funds, she has applied for a loan of USD 2,000 to dig a well and pay for labor costs. With the help of this loan she hopes that she won’t face a water shortage in the future and she will no longer have to spend a lot of time collecting water from distant sources. She expresses her thanks to all Kiva lenders for showing their interest in poor people like her seeking to improve sanitation and having safe water to drink.

This loan is special because:

It provides access to clean, renewable energy sources, like solar and biogas.
