Sheila Estela
Sheila Estela is 29 years old and a single mother who works as a housekeeper. She is independent and lives with her nine year old daughter in the Laureles North neighborhood, a high risk neighborhood because of the crime and because the living conditions there are not the best for its residents. One of her greatest needs is to build the porch in front of her home and to repair a wall that will provide better security for her and her daughter. She is asking for this loan in order to buy the necessary building materials. Her primary reason is because the rainy season is approaching and the water leaks into her home; the secondary reason is for increased security.

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
