Micaela Bastidas Ii Group's story

The community outreach program, Micaela Bastidas II, has 10 members who operate small, informal businesses. They have worked with EDAPROSPO-Prosperidad for 2 years. Maria Elena, an enthusiastic and entrepreneurial woman, has been the president of the group for 8 months. She is 39 years old and a single mother with a 17 year old son who is preparing to study at the university. For 15 years, Maria Elena has operated a tailoring business (Alta Costura) that she started after studying dress-making and tailoring. Working hard every day, she has managed to set up a workshop with three sewing machines (chainstitch, lockstitch, coverstitch). She wants to expand the business and export her products. Maria will use her most recent loan to buy supplies (cloth, thread, buttons, etc.). The loan will add to her working capital so that she can continue operating the business.
