A loan helped to purchase solar home systems and lanterns for rural customers in Mali.

Energy+'s story

In Mali, 81% of the population does not have access to electricity, with the average household spending up to a third of their limited income on kerosene, batteries, or diesel generators, which are expensive and environmentally harmful.

Energy+ pursues the objective of guaranteeing rural households in Mali access to essential energy services
through a safe, modern, clean and economical solar solution. They market pay-as-you-go solar home systems which allow families to significantly reduce their energy expenses, develop income-generating activities, and improve the general living conditions of marginalized communities.

Energy+ reaches customers through an extensive network of community-based agents and over 10,000 points of sale, making clean energy both affordable and accessible. Since its founding in 2017, Energy+ has provided access to over 100,000 households. This Kiva loan will allow Energy+ to provide solar-powered home systems and lanterns to thousands of more households in Mali.

This loan is special because:

It catalyzes access to affordable solar-powered products for lower-income households across Africa and Asia.
