A loan of $1,000 helped purchase colas, water, rice, sugar, milk, and flour.

Estrella Natividad's story

The Communal Bank “Los Gemelos” (The Twins) gathers in the area of the same name and is located on the outskirts of the city of Portoviejo in Guabito Parish.

Estrella sells beauty products through catalogs, Brazilian jewelry, and also manages a store in her home where she offers a variety of products. She started her business ten years ago when her mother challenged her by giving her a bottle of cola to sell. Gradually she began buying more and now sells four cases of soft drinks at a time.

Estrella has been a member of her Communal Bank for five years. She is married, has three children, and lives in an urban parish. In her business, she receives distributor prices and achieves a profit margin of 25%. Estrella has a refrigerator for storing colas, water, and juices. Her customers come from the same area where she lives.

Her husband is 45 years old and works as a public employee. They have their own home. Estrella wants to invest in items for her store so that her business remains stocked. She would like to have a larger business that has everything, including a display case containing different products found in a bazaar. Her plans include investing in items according to what is sold.
