Mbabazi's story

Mbabazi is 26 years old and lives in the town of Kyengera in the Kyengera region of Uganda. She has 3 children with 2 of them currently in school. For the past 5 years, Mbabazi has been working hard to manage her retail business, which sells soap,salt,bread,salt,beans,groundnuts.

To help expand her business, Mbabazi has requested a loan of 2000000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy sacks of sugar, salt and rice, and will help Mbabazi to generate greater profits, Mbabazi will realize more profits from the expanded business. She will be in position to improve on her standard of living by catering for home basic needs. Mbabazi hopes that in the future she will be able to start up a supermarket.

Mbabazi is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
