Julia's story

46-year old Julia is a widow and mother of nine children, five of whom live with her in a rented house. She also owns her own home on the hilltops around the town of Pichanaki. With help from her children, she grows citrus fruits, coffee, cocoa and other jungle fruits. She really enjoys the tranquility that country living offers. On the other hand she dislikes pulling up the weeds from her fields as it is exhausting work. When the fields need several days of such work, her arms end up being very sore, but the knowledge that the harvest will be excellent keeps her going.

Julia has been doing this work for twenty years and thanks to farming, she has been able to obtain much property such as farmland and a house near to her fields, as well as educate her children. Now she wants to increase productivity by alternating different crops, and also start a nursery growing coffee plants.

This is Julia’s second loan with Kiva partner MFP and she is very enthusiastic about working with her community group. With the loan she will buy a motorized machine to help remove the weeds from her fields.
