A loan helped to purchase for more fertilizers and pesticides for resale.

Joseph's story

Joseph is 49 years old and lives in the town of Kumi in the Soroti region of Uganda. He is married and has 7 children with 4 of them currently in school. For the past 5 years, Joseph has been working hard to manage his retail shop, which sells agro-inputs.

To help expand his business, Joseph has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more fertilizers and pesticides for resale and will help Joseph to generate greater profits and manage to pay school fees for his children. Joseph hopes that in the future he will be able to open more agro-input shops.

Joseph is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Joseph who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
