A loan of $325 helps to buy more cereals and improve her cereal trading business, which has been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Margaret's story

Margaret (a repeat Kiva borrower) is a 43-year old mother of one child living in Bungoma, a town whose surroundings have vast agricultural potential with numerous small farms as well as vast agricultural enterprises. Margaret is a mixed farmer who has farmed for eight years. Apart from farming, she is also a cereal trader.

Margaret is seeking this loan to buy more cereals and improve her cereal trading business, which has been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Unlike banks and other local money lenders who operate mainly in urban centers, Juhudi Kilimo (a Kiva field partner) has extended its operations to the most remote areas of Kenya, creating opportunities for different people to access loans. Support Margaret in this time when the COVID-19 pandemic has affected food systems, food security, and agricultural livelihoods.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
