A loan helped to buy poultry and feed for her her poultry business.

Maurine's story

This is Maurine (a repeat kiva borrower). Maurine is a 27-year-old mother living in Siongiroi, a town that hosts a number of elite athletes in Kenya. She has been working on her farm for twenty years. She practices crop, poultry, and sheep farming. Through farming, Maurine is able to meet the basic needs of her family. Although she has been making profits through farming, not everything has been easy for this humble and industrious mom. Her farm has been producing poor yields.

Maurine wants to buy poultry and increase her poultry business to provide her with additional income to meet the rising costs of living. She loves poultry and she’s confident that she will earn revenue through selling eggs, chicks, and poultry meat.

Maurine is inspired by Juhudi Kilimo's efforts at alleviating rural poverty through financing enterprising smallholder farmers like her, and she has applied for a loan. She has also learned that Kiva lenders are willing and able to support her by lending to elevate her standard of living. This loan will have a lasting impact on her life and that of her family. Kindly consider lending to this industrious mom.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
