Catherine's story

Born 28 February 1984 in Sikasso, Mrs. Catherine D. is married, the mother of three children and lives in a traditional extended family in Banconi, one of the boroughs on the outskirts of Sikasso (third administrative region of the Republic of Mali).

After attempting several unsuccessful activities, she ventured into retail commerce some seven years ago selling pagnes wax (a variety of colourful West-African fabric), embroidery, plastic shoes, etc. She is in high demand because of the quality of her products.

Wanting to satisfy an ever-increasing number of customers, she decided to join the Soro Yiriwaso MFI, where she is requesting a fourth individual loan. With this loan she will buy 10 lengths of pagne wax fabric, four sets of embroidered clothing, dozens of plastic shoes coming from Bobo Dioulasso (Burkina Faso).

She sells her products as an itinerant vendor, in commercial structures or through home delivery, to a varied customer base. She hopes this loan will help her attain monthly earnings of 100,000 FCFA which she will use essentially to increase her working capital, contribute to family expenses and reimburse her loan.
