A loan helped a member to buy analgesics, antibiotics, and vitamins.

La Pista Group's story

It is reassuring to know that one can visit a nearby pharmacy when the necessity arises and be attended to by a pleasant pharmacist selling quality products.

Ileana, a 34-year-old married mother of two children (11 and 14), is a nurse with a neighborhood pharmacy that she opened six years ago.

Because Ileana understands the tremendous value of education, she uses part of her income to send her children to school, where they are in the 5th and 8th grades.

Ileana is requesting her first Kiva loan to buy analgesics, antibiotics, and vitamins.

Iieana is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “La Pista,” along with six other women who live in the department/state of Quiche.

The majority of them attended elementary school. They sell vegetables, personal care products, delicious regional snack foods, and ice cream. Many sell traditional and modern clothing. Others have food carts and sell French fries.

They appreciate learning about effective business management skills, as well as information about healthy habits, family matters, and women’s issues in their monthly meetings.

Every two months, the ladies have access to health care services, including blood pressure and blood sugar testing, breast exams, PAP smears, and family planning.

Friendship Bridge calls this combination of loans, education, and health care services “Microcredit Plus”.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for lending a helping hand to these women who are stepping into a brighter future!
