A loan of $2,475 helps a member to purchase of a variety of grocery and cleaning products.

Princesas De Trapichitos Group's story

Currently, Guatemalan women are constantly looking for new opportunities to improve their quality of life and eliminate poverty in their families. This is the case of Juana, a 47-year-old woman who never tires of starting new businesses. She is a married woman and has raised five children over the age of 15. Juana studied at school for two years but has provided higher education to all of her children.

A year ago, she saw the need for her neighbours to have a small daily consumer store nearby, so she started this business. Juana wants to expand her store, but knows that without the support of Kiva lenders, it will not be possible. She will invest in the purchase of a variety of grocery and cleaning products.

There are five women who are of Sacapulteco Mayan descent and participate in the monthly meetings of the Puente de Amistad Community Bank “Princesas de Trapichitos”. They make loan payments and then participate in trainings on business management, women's empowerment, and family care. Business skills in budgeting, saving and investing help women grow their convenience store, chicken farming, farming and livestock businesses. Every two months, they have access to basic health services, which, along with educational sessions, are a winning combination of the Microcredito Plus program. (The child in the photo is the son of a borrower).

These women hope to eliminate poverty from their families with the generous support of Kiva's lenders. Thank you!
