Sonia's story

Sonia, 28, lives with her domestic partner and two children of school age. Together they reside in a community located in the Cuzco rain forest, where they own their house. Sonia works with her husband, who is her partner. For some time they have engaged in the production and marketing of cocoa and coca leaf. This activity produces good income that allows them to have a good quality of life. They haven't always enjoyed economic prosperity. There were times when they went hungry because they did not have enough money, but working together they were able to get ahead.

Currently they have potential customers, and they are doing well in the marketing of natural products, due to the constant sacrifice of both her and her husband. She is proud and happy for everything that has happened. It is for this reason that every morning she goes to her farm, to care for it, usually working with her husband. At harvest time she has to hire laborers to expedite the efficient picking of cocoa and coca leaf. Normally, she sells the products to collection centers in her community.

Her future plan is to install a clothing store, since there are few stores of this type in her community, and she calculates that it should produce a good income. This is her second loan with MFP, and she promises to comply promptly with her payments. Sonia also likes to participate actively in her communal bank, because responsibility is shared by all members. She plans to invest the money requested in providing maintenance for her farm, buying fertilizer and manure for their respective plantings of cacao and coca leaf.
