Benkan Group's story

Nana is the group representative; he is pictured alone in the photo because of covid-19 regulations.

He is the leader of the group and 34 years of age. He did not get the opportunity to attend school. He is married and the father of 2 children who are too young to attend school yet. He has been a market gardener for over 11 years and is on his 7th loan cycle with RMCR.

He buys his agricultural entrants (seeds and fertiliser) at the markets in the zone and resells his produce (fruit and vegetable) at the same markets. The money that he earns allow him to cover his family's expenditures (health, education, clothing, food). His wife is a sheep farmer. The main challenges his business faces are crop failure, damage caused by pest insects, and poor sales.

In future, he would like to continue working with RMCR so that he can increase his profit and build a house in a town.

What he likes about market gardening is the interest it generates.

In this group: Nana, Bakary, N'golo, Gouano, Bourama
