A loan of $1,075 helped to buy fertilizer to improve her crops.

Bertha's story

Bertha is 43 years old, married with 8 children. She lives in her own home in Santa Rosa which is located in the beautiful Ayacuchan jungle. Like her parents before her, she is involved in agriculture which is how she received her first wages. She was happy to work and enjoyed what she was doing. Without giving it a second thought, she followed in her parent’s path.

After a while, she started to grow a product that generated significant income in a short time. For this reason, she dedicated herself to growing coca leaves. Her strategy is to work in her fields from 5:00am until 6:00pm. She sells her produce locally to middlemen. Normally she works alone, but occasionally she receives help from her children and together they make a great team. In the near future, she is thinking of diversifying her crops and cultivating both cocoa and coffee.

This is her third credit with MFP and she promises to complete her repayment plan punctually. She has great faith that she will go far with her communal group as each member is very responsible. Bertha will use part of her loan to pay for her children’s school expenses. The rest will be used to buy fertilizer in the hopes of improving her production of coca leaves.
