A loan helped to buy farming inputs, which she will use to improve her horticultural production that has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mary's story

Mary, a repeat Kiva borrower, is 55 years old and lives in Thika, a remote area located on a gentle plain before the ascent into the central highlands of Kenya. She is a mixed dairy and crop farmer who has farmed for the past ten years. Through farming, she has made her life meaningful.

The major impediment to the development of smallhold farms in Kenya is the lack of short-term credit facilities. Juhudi Kilimo, in partnership with Kiva, is working hard to support smallholder farmers in Kenya through financing, therefore guaranteeing their survival.

Mary is seeking this loan to buy farming inputs, which she will use to improve her horticultural production that has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Kindly light up her flames of hope for success with just a loan.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
