A loan helped to buy a solar lighting system which will improve the family's living conditions.

Elena's story

Elena is a fighter, who lives in the village of Yoro, Honduras. She is 53 years old and lives with her husband and two children. Together with her husband, Jose, she works in farming growing coffee.

Elena has always struggled to provide her children with the best education possible and a good standard of living. However, there are some challenges in her community given that there is no access to any electric service. This means that doing household chores at night is somewhat complicated since she has to use candles or kerosene lamps to provide light, which is damaging for their health.

This is why Elena has decided to apply for a loan with Soluz Honduras in order to buy a solar lighting system which will help them with their jobs and also enable them to have bit of entertainment after a hard day's work and also improve their living conditions.

Translated from Spanish by Kiva volunteer Elaine Berry de Pulido.

This loan is special because:

It will illuminate the night with electric light systems.
