A loan of $450 helped purchase of construction materials (zinc sheets, beams, doors and other items).

Fernando Alfredo's story

Fernando Alfredo M. was born in Boane District, Maputo Province in southern Mozambique. He is 42 years old, married, and has three children, ages 18, 12, and 1. The 12-year-old goes to school. Fernando only completed seventh grade; he did not continue because of financial difficulties. He lives in his own house with his family and supports a niece who lives with him.

He has never left the city of Maputo. For more than 15 years he has worked as an operations technician at Aguas de Moçambique. He has no employees and has a salary of 7,107 meticais per month. He uses this money for household expenses and also manages to save some in his bank account.

Fernando had a loan with Barclays Commercial Bank and decided not to continue with them. He learned about Hluvuku through his cousin, who is a long-time customer of this institution. This is his first loan. He is asking for 15,000 meticais to buy construction materials (zinc sheets, beams, doors and other items) to add on to his house.

He promises to pay off this loan on time to maintain his credit. In the future he would like to ask for more loans to buy another plot and build another house.
