Mercedita's story

Mercedita P. is from the village of Nabbotuan, Solana, Cagayan. She is 34 years old. Mercedita is married and has 3 school-aged children. To make a living, Mercedita owns and operates a business venture in the agriculture sector raising livestock. While not the only means for generating revenue, the main source of income for the business comes from raising pigs for fattening and sale. Mercedita has been engaged in her business for over 13 years and earns approximately 4000 PHP a month for these activities.

In 2006, Mercedita joined ASKI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Mercedita successfully repaid a previous loan of 25000 PHP from ASKI. Mercedita is requesting a new loan of 25000 PHP, which will be used to purchase baby livestock to raise and sell. This loan will be the sixth loan taken out by Mercedita from ASKI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to pay the tuition fees of her children.
