Mantelar Group's story

The solidarity group MANTELAR was estabished in October 2002.  It is composed of eight members from the same village of NIAFOR.  The group is one of eight groups that make up Banc Villageois de NIAFOR.  The group members average about 40 years of age and are the mothers of at least four children.  In general, their commerce involves palm oil, peanut oil, and market gardening.

To intensify their businesses and to increase their buying power, the group members decided to join the micro-finance institution CAURIE-MF in October 2002.  The purpose was to receive some of its services.  They have practically 8½ years of seniority in the system.  Their loans have always been repaid without difficulties.  Their new loans will enable them to do better in supplying themselves with goods and in developing their market garden businesses.

The supervisor of the group, Fanda Toumane N., is 43 years old.  She is married and the mother of six children to support, and she is the guardian of another child of her brother-in-law.  Fanda grows sweet potatoes and sells peanut oil and palm oil.  Her goal is to support her husband in paying for the various house expenses and to take part in covering the children's schooling costs.

In this group: Bintou, Safiétou, Diari, Fanda Toumane, Adiass, Khadidiatou, Martine, Méta
