Las Rosas De Xejuyup Group's story

Dominga is a hard working 26 year old married mother of 2 children (18 mos., 9 yrs) who has 3 businesses. She resells traditional textiles, embroiders regional clothing and sells lunches from house to house. Dominga understands the value of education as she attended school for 8 years and so part of her income is earmarked for the education of her son who is in the 2nd grade. She is very proud of him! Dominga is requesting her 1st KIVA loan to buy a variety of traditional clothing, ingredients for her recipes, as well as pots and pans.

Dominga looks forward to the monthly meetings of her Friendship Bridge Trust Bank ,“Las Rosas de Yejuyup”, located in the tropical area of the department/State of Solola. There are 7 other Maya K’iche ladies in the group. These women have tortilla shops, sell fruits, vegetables, prepared foods and traditional clothing. As part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services, they have access to a visiting nurse every other month. At their meetings, they are actively involved in educational trainings that cover a relevant aspect of 4 topics: business, health, family, women. Often, they share what they learn with family and friends.

This is a challenging time for Dominga and her friends due to the restrictions imposed by the government due to Covid19. Public transportation is closed, markets are shuttered and there is a curfew. Thank you, KIVA investors, for giving them hope with loan support!
