Aminata's story

Aminata Toure, aged 44, is widow and mother of three children. She lives in the house of her late husband with her children in the neighborhood Bougoufié Ségou (fourth administrative region of the Republic of Mali). Aminata dropped out of school in the 9th grade (Basic Malian educational system) to get married by parental will. She started her business after the death of her husband. She began by selling cakes; this business has given her the chance to gain business and marketing expertise. Later she started selling garlic and shallots and she has been now for 17 years in this business. She is well known in the area and enjoys a good reputation. In order to increase her capital and her revenue, 36 months ago she has joined Soro Yiriwaso and she received 2 group loans and 2 individual loans, all fully repaid. She is now receving her third individual loan, that she intends to use to buy a ton of shallots. She buys and sells in Burkina Faso in cash, wholesale and credit to a clientele of men and women. With this loan she plans to earn a monthly income of 120,000 CFA francs, that she will use for the family needs (buy food, clothing for children and payment of tuition fees).
Her ambition is to transform her house from adobe to something hard.
