A loan of $3,450 helps a member to buy fruit, corn, firewood and ingredients.

Emanuel San Lucas El Centro Group's story

The variety of typical sweets in Guatemala is very wide due to the diversity of fruits, seeds and natural sweeteners that are produced. Elvira makes a popular food with peaches, chamomile and coconut in honey, which she sells outside her home in the department/state of Sololá. People taste this food. She also sells food and a variety of fruit. Elvira is 46 years old and married and has five children between the ages of two and 26. Four of her children are receiving a complete education. She wants to invest in her business and is applying for her first Kiva loan to buy fruit, corn, firewood and ingredients.

There are seven Kaqchiquel Mayan women who make up the Communal Bank of Puente de Amistad's "Emanuel San Lucas El Centro” group and stand out for working hard in their traditional businesses of textiles, prepared foods, convenience stores, personal use products by catalog, and sale of fruit ice creams. Because Elvira and her friends in the group have little or no formal education, they learn a lot during monthly meetings on one aspect of four topics: business, health, family, women. They often share what they learn with family, friends, and neighbors. Every two months, these women have access to basic health services. Puente de Amistad calls the combination of loans, education and medical care Microcredit Plus. It works! (The children in the photograph are children of the borrowers).

Thank you to each of the Kiva lenders for helping these women grow integrally!

In this group: Elvira , Eugenia , Aura Edelmira , Tania Viviana , Sindy Paola , Brenda Rocsana , Alba Irene
