A loan of $400 helped purchasing pastes, soap, insecticide, peanut oil etc.

Célestine's story

Célestine A. was born in 1960 and has lived in the Agata quarter of Cotonou, Benin's administrative capital, for around 35 years. She is married to Toussaint Codjo and has six children; some of them attend school, but three are still under Célestine and her husband's care. The couple share the family demands between them. Célestine never attended school, and for around 8 years she has sold various products (tomato and sardine pastes, milk, peanut oil, soap, candles, manioc flour etc) in and around her quarter. She sources her goods from Dantokpa, Benin's international market. She has already received and successfully repaid 5 loans from ALIDé, and is seeking another in order to increase her inventory levels to better satisfy her customers' demands and to generate more profit.
