A loan of $3,200 helps a member to buy basic staples for her store and ingredients for her delicious tacos.

San Francisco Yepocapa Group's story

Mayra, a 30-year-old married mother of two, ages four and seven, is fortunate to have a high school diploma. Two years ago, she opened a little “taqueria” (taco shop) and a convenience store. She offers delivery of her delicious tacos. Her husband works in a grocery business.

Mayra needs to restock the shelves of her store and buy items that are popular with her customers, as well as ingredients for her popular tacos.

Mayra is president of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank, “San Francisco Yepocapa,” in the department/state of Chimaltenango. This is the first Kiva loan for the group which wants to invest in their convenience stores, “tortillerias,” and sales of vegetables and gelatines. At monthly meetings, a facilitator shares information with them about health, women, family and business.

Recently, they've learned about Covid19 and how to protect themselves. The women have also learned about the importance of social media to promote their products and services to increase sales. Every other month, they have access to a visiting nurse. This useful combination of education, health care and loan support is named “Microcredit Plus.”

Mayra and her friends are facing challenges of this time with courage and innovation. Kiva investors, who supply the capital for their much-appreciated loans, are held in high esteem. Thank you to each of you for lending a helping hand!
