A loan of $450 helped to buy jeans, blouses, jackets, shirts, formal, casual and sport footwear.

Claudia Soledad's story

Claudia V. is an active member of the Mujeres Luchadores (Motivated Women), a community bank located in the large city of Cuenca in the south of Ecuador, which is 2,500 metres above sea level. The city is cultural and sporting capital of Ecuador and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999.

Claudia is 31 years old, married and has two children (11 and 6 years old) who study in a local school. Her husband works as a panel beater (reconstructing bodywork on automobiles). They do not have their own house and instead rent property.

Claudia sells clothes and footwear on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday in the Feria Libre and 27 de Febrero markets, where she has her own stall, and works from 6am until 4pm, thanks to her mother who also worked previously in the same job. Claudia has invested her previous loans into her business and with the new loan hopes to buy jeans, blouses, jackets, shirts, trainers and other types of formal and casual wear.

Claudia’s goal is to ensure her children get the best education so that they can go on to become professionals and be successful in life.
