A loan of $1,100 helped purchase jewelry at wholesale.

Rosa Herminia's story

Rosa is a member of the Umiña community bank located in the beautiful and luscious port of Manta on the banks of the Pacific Ocean. Rosa is big merchant of fine silver jewelry and has a number of years of experience in the business. At 54 years old she is convinced her biggest passion is jewelry, and with her business she has been able to raise her children despite having the difficult task of being both their mother and father. She feels content that they are professionals. She started the business after being an artisan, and she learned crafts from a very young age at a shop. After a good amount of time she met a woman who offered her to take up selling jewelry brought in directly from the city of Cuenca. Many of the years she spent the majority of her time working on orders. She developed the business as follows: She purchases the merchandise from a wholesaler in Cuenca who brings it to the city of Guayaquil; once it is delivered to Rosa, she splits the supplies with 20 people who are in charge of taking the jewelry to sell throughout the country. With this new loan, Rosa plans to purchase more jewelry. She would like to have her own jewelry store in the city of Manta and doesn't rule out the possibility. She has even talked to a person who distributes the jewelry to give her a chance to realize her dream.
