A loan of $900 helped purchase ingredients for food, wigs, and assist paying studies.

Teresa De Jesus's story

Teresa De Jesús C. has been a member of the bank Atenas del Ecuador for 8 years. She lives in a suburb of Cuenca city, capital of the Azuay province, located in the southern part of the Ecuatorian Andean ranges. This is the third most important city in Ecuador, and is characterised by its tranquility and beauty. It is an historical city and its city centre was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1999. Our member has been divorced for 2 years, because of the infidelity of her partner. She is 55 years old and has 4 children - 37, 28, 22 and 17 years old. The first three children are married and only one lives with her in her house, sharing the household costs and studies, paying the rent because they don't have their own home. Teresa does various activities, including selling snacks for the past 4 months, and has also been making guaipes (cleaning clothes) for a year. She also cleans offices twice a week from 2pm - 6pm. As she is a hyperactive woman she also sells wigs, mainly for special events. With this new loan she will buy meat, toothpicks, potatoes, sauces for her snacks, purchase some wigs, and also help her son's studies. Her goals is to have a large food sale business.
