A loan helped to buy some pandanus for her weaving business.

Sinamoni's story

This is Sinamoni. She is 21 years old, and she is still single. Sinamoni runs a business of weaving, where she weaves with her mother. Together they weave taovala and mats, but mainly with only white pandanus. She has been running this business for quite a few years now, because she dropped school in an early age. She sells out her weaving to relatives overseas, but since the lock-down, she has had to sell out her weaving locally.

When the cyclone hit Tonga on April, her raw pandanus was blown off in the sea, because in order to turn the pandanus white, it has to be stored in the sea. The pandanus got carried away by the waves and was lost. Sinamoni hopes to apply for a revitalization loan to buy pandanus and keep her business running.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
