A loan of $4,250 helps a member to buy vegetables, chicken, spices, and firewood.

Las Boganvilis Group's story

Starting a business offers many advantages, such as starting something from scratch, being the boss yourself, and having the ability to create a product that attracts customers. This is what Juana, 35, a wife and mother of three children (6-18) accomplished.

She completed two years of education, but she is proud to provide a complete education to all her children. She works hard in the prepared food business.

Before difficult times from the coronavirus came, she worked on a farm and sold food during the lunch and snack hours. Now she only sells at home because the farm canceled the work of several people.

The business is working successfully and Juana needs more products to continue cooking. She is applying for the first Kiva loan to buy vegetables, chicken, spices, and firewood.

Juana is president of the Communal Bank of Puente de Amistad “Las Boganvilis”. Within the group, there are 10 other women who are of Mayan Tzutuhil descent and live in a rural area of the Department / State of Suchitepéquez. They want to invest the loan in the sale of food and firewood.

Now, due to the coronavirus, her facilitator contacts women by cell phone and they continue to learn about hygiene measures and health care.

This effective combination of loans, education, and health is called "Microcredit Plus". Thank you to every Kiva lender who finances the loans for these working women!

In this group: Rosario Elizabeth , Juana , Gladys Aracely, Dolores , Angelica Dolores , Maria Paula , Maria Paula , Karin Damaris , Maria , Yasmin Yesenia , Juana Francisca
