A loan helped to buy farming inputs, such as fertilizers, to improve leafing on her tea farm, thus enabling her to make more income from her farm.

Marcella's story

Marcella (pictured at her tea farm) is a 68-year-old mother who has always committed her entire energies for the support of her family. She lives in Nyamira, a town where the main economic activities include agricultural processing, particularly in tea and dairy farming.

She is borrowing this loan to buy farming inputs, such as fertilizers, to improve leafing on her tea farm, thus enabling her to make more income from her farm.

Unlike banks and other local money lenders who operate mainly in urban centres, Juhudi Kilimo (a Kiva field partner) has extended its operations to the most remote areas of Kenya, creating opportunities for different people to access loans.

Marcella is very thankful to Kiva lenders for taking time to read her story and for supporting her during this tough economic recession.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
