Evelin is a 37 year old single mother to her only child Helmut, who is 13 years old and a sixth grade student. She has worked the past three years for the City of Juigalpa as a property tax surveyor. Evelin is requesting her first loan with hopes of acquiring her own home since she currently does not have one. However, she does have a plot of land on which to build. Evelin is enrolled in a housing program that will help her with the construction, but she needs to make a down payment in order for the work to begin. The problem is that she lacks the necessary funds. For this reason, she is depending on the support of AFODENIC and Kiva so that she can continue in the program.

Her greatest wish is to have her own house and make improvements to it so that one day she can leave it as an inheritance for her son.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
