A loan of $2,325 helped a member to buy merchandise.

Villa Obrajes Group's story

The “VilL. Obrajes” communal bank is so called because all its members live in the VilL. Obrajes area; they all know each other and serve as each other’s guarantor.

The group president is Alcira. She’s married and has two small children. She rents her house and has a neighborhood grocery store at the end of Colombia Street that’s open every day from very early in the morning until late at night. Her husband is a public transportation driver and also works all day. He comes by to pick up his wife at the end of the day and takes her home to continue the next day with the same routine. She is a person with a lot of initiative and a good group leader. She was elected group president thanks to her responsibility and solidarity. She will use the funds to buy stock merchandise for her store.

Viviana is secretary. She rents her house. For two years she has recycled bottles. This is an activity that many people are engaged in. They gather bottles from trash in the street and from homes; they look for them everywhere and sell them to firms that recycle them. Viviana will use the funds to rent a little store where she can buy these products from others and then she will resell them to the recycling firms.

This is a group of 8 independent young people. Each has an independent commercial activity. They are very organized and grateful to Emprender and to Kiva for the trust placed in them by granting this loan.

In this group: Alcira, Natividad, Nathaly , Sandro, Gricelda, Viviana, Ivan , Vitalia
